Rain shower or shower head?

Rain shower or shower head?

Customers often face the dilemma of choosing a shower or a freestanding bathtub in their bathroom. This choice will depend on the size of the bathroom and the owner's preferences, but the range of sanitary devices available on the market is extremely wide. If we choose a shower (shower cabin), the dilemma remains which device to use to direct water onto the user's body. We have several devices that make this task easier.

Rain Showers

Taking a shower isn't just a hygienic activity. Experts have long proven that water droplets flowing down our bodies can have a soothing and anti-stress effect. That's why, after a long and demanding day, we so eagerly head to the shower for a much-needed refreshment and moment of relaxation. It's no wonder we want our shower area to be ergonomically designed and provide maximum convenience and comfort. One of the most common problems when designing a shower area is choosing between a hand shower and a rain shower head.

Rain Shower Head and Hand Shower – How They Work

Rain Shower Head  is a solution we're choosing more and more often. This is one of those devices that allows us to feel like we're in a real spa.

A rain shower  resembles a shower head in appearance and operation, but is much larger and can take on various shapes. Rain shower heads with a round plate, as well as square and rectangular panels, are available for purchase. A rain shower head also differs from a handset in its mounting method. While a shower head is installed on a special bracket allowing for up-and-down adjustment, a rain shower head is mounted so that the water stream flows at a 90-degree angle, straight onto the head.

Unlike a shower head, the holes in a rain shower head are spaced further apart. The water flowing through them is more dispersed and sometimes aerated. This way, when showering under a rain shower, we feel as if small, delicate raindrops are falling on our bodies. While a shower head provides a stronger and more concentrated stream, a rain shower has a diffused stream, and the droplets evenly spread over the body, ensuring a gentle massage and a pleasant experience.

When purchasing a rain shower, it's worth considering:

Shape and design

Depending on your needs, you can choose a rain shower with round, square, or rectangular "plates." If you're looking for a more immersive shower experience, you might opt for a cascading rain shower head, for example, which shapes the water into a natural waterfall. The possibilities are truly endless.

Size

When choosing a rain shower head size, consider the size of the shower area and your individual needs. Rain showers with diameters ranging from 6 cm to 60 cm (and larger) are available on the market.

Features

Premium rain showers can be equipped with additional features, including adjusting the intensity and type of water flow. Some of them feature, for example, additional LED lights that create a cozy atmosphere in the shower. They can also be equipped with aerators that help save water.

Shower Heads

The shower head, besides the faucet, is the most important element of any shower fixture. The comfort of bathing depends largely on its size and functionality. Shower heads can work as single-function or multi-functional.

Shower Heads - Operation Modes

Each shower head consists of a body and a head. The size and shape of both elements depend on the shower faucet's design. The most complex structure is the head, capable of generating several different water streams. These include:

  • Rain - a wide stream of water that breaks into large droplets. A similar effect can be achieved with a rain shower head;
  • Whirlpool - a strong, concentrated stream of water with a stimulating effect, which can be used, for example, for rehabilitation. A shower head with a hydromassage function contains a special impeller;
  • Mist - a highly dispersed stream that creates a fine suspension in the air. Perfect for cooling off on a hot day;
  • Soft Jet - a gentle, relaxing stream. Aerated water flows from the largest diameter holes;
  • mixed stream - you can also set indirect streams that combine the features mentioned above.

A hand shower, compared to a rain shower head:

  • has a more concentrated and powerful stream;
  • is usually compact;
  • takes up less space in the shower cabin;
  • is permanently mounted;
  • can be removed from the holder and the water flow can be directed in any direction;
  • is much easier to maintain and install.

Concealed Shower Faucets

Concealed faucets  are special wall-mounted devices that allow you to hide bathroom fittings. They are often chosen for their minimalist and modern design. Concealed faucets operate by connecting to the plumbing system. Water flow is controlled using valves and knobs located outside the wall, ensuring ease of use and efficiency.

It's hard to imagine a modern bathroom without a shower faucet. It can be installed next to the bathtub or in the shower. When purchasing, pay attention to the mounting options. Shower faucets, like other types, are divided into concealed and surface-mounted (i.e., wall-mounted).

  • Concealed Shower Faucets

    They take up less space and are aesthetically pleasing. Only the spout and the water flow and temperature control lever protrude from the wall, along with the handset/rain shower switch in some models. The entire control mechanism is hidden beneath the tiles. Therefore, a concealed faucet is installed before the tiles are laid.
  • Surface-Mounted Shower Faucets

    They are installed directly on the water supply. The control mechanism is visible, and the faucet itself is attached to the wall. These faucets vary in shape and are available in many colors, giving them an aesthetically pleasing, original look. Surface-mounted faucets can be installed in several ways, for example, on a rod or a handle. The first solution is more practical because the shower head can be adjusted, which is especially useful when children use the shower. You can also purchase modern shower panels with significantly enhanced functionality, equipped with a hydromassage function.

Shower Faucets - Construction and Operation

Shower faucets should be characterized not only by aesthetic appearance, but also by high functionality. Shower faucets are generally composed of the following components: • A shower head, responsible for mixing hot and cold water. Modern faucets use ceramic and thermostatic cartridges.

  • The ceramic cartridge is durable and resistant to damage. The thermostatic cartridge allows you to adjust the temperature of the flowing water.
  • The body is usually made of brass. The quality of the material is crucial to the durability of a shower faucet. The water flow can be adjusted using the handle or the knobs located on the body. Single-lever faucets are considered more practical and economical.
  • Aerator – aerates the water stream, reducing water consumption.
  • Shower handset and rain shower head – every shower faucet is equipped with a handset. Some also have a rain shower head, permanently mounted above the shower head. The rain shower head is much larger and, as the name suggests, simulates raindrops.
  • A hose that carries water from the shower head to the shower head and/or rain shower head.

Shower Sets

A typical shower set consists of the following components: a hand shower, a shower rail, a wall bracket, a hose, and a soap dish. Shower Sets  allow you to precisely adjust the height of the shower head. This allows people of different heights to use it comfortably. Sliding sets are used in both shower cabins and bathtubs.

Sliding Shower Sets - Design and Application

Sliding sets include an additional rail that is mounted on the wall along with the shower faucet. The rails vary in thickness, length, and color; they are aesthetically matched to the faucet. In addition to the shower head, a small shelf (included in some sets) can also be mounted on the rail. It's ideal for storing shampoos, for example.

A sliding shower  is a good solution for families with small children. It allows everyone in the household to use the shower head equally comfortably. Such sets are also commonly used in hotel bathrooms, as guests vary in height.

The most important parameters of sliding showers

Sliding showers vary in shape and color: silver, gold, white, and black. Models in other colors are less popular. The shower head surface can be matte, satin, or glossy. The shower's appearance is one of its most important features.

The durability of sliding shower sets depends largely on the materials from which they are made. Bathroom faucets  are made of brass with a specific copper content (the higher the copper content, the better). The best shower heads are made of durable ceramics. Seal-type shower heads are less durable, depending on the quality of the seals used. Good faucets also have features that help save water, such as locks on the handles, which allow for quick adjustment of the water temperature. Thermostatic faucets are also a practical solution. Shower heads may have silicone nozzle covers to prevent limescale from clogging them.

Shower Hoses

A shower hose  is an inconspicuous yet essential piece of equipment for every bathroom. It should be durable, reliable, and aesthetically pleasing. What are the characteristics of a good shower hose? It definitely shouldn't kink or bend. Its design should ensure free water flow at all times. It's worth choosing a shower hose with a slightly flexible braid, which will make using it more comfortable. Choose high-quality workmanship, and the hose will serve you reliably for many years. Our collection of shower hoses includes the highest quality products. A shower hose is a rubber tube braided with plastic or stainless steel. That's why shower hoses  are divided by material – you can choose between stainless steel or plastic hoses. A shower hose is constantly exposed to moisture, so the material it's made from should be corrosion-resistant. Both plastic and steel are resistant to moisture and corrosion. However, they differ in aesthetics – stainless steel hoses are a perfect match for classic shower faucets. We also offer fashionable shower hoses for brass or black faucets. A wide selection of braided options and patterns ensures you'll find the perfect shower hose for your bathroom.
